In 2004, Aman was the first international hotel brand to open in Bhutan, with five lodges across the country. The properties, which are known in their entirety as Amankora, make up an appealing circuit for visits to Bhutan that can range from one to two weeks. Architect Kerry Hill designed the lodges with tastefully monastic bedrooms and minimalist spaces in nature. In their various locations, however, each has a different style and setting. Amankora Gangtey is a remote lodge perched over a wide valley, with direct views of Gangtey Goempa Monastery, and is a common favorite of the Amankora circuit. Indagare can help match the combination of lodges that might be right for you on a journey through Bhutan.

Amankora Gangtey Review
Aman’s Amankora Gangtey lodge has a few annual repeat guests who choose this special property to spend their entire time in Bhutan, and after spending a few days here, it’s easy to understand why. Gangtey is located at the northern edge overlooking the vast Phobjikha Valley, and the main lodge and rooms have spectacular views of the mountains, Gangtey Goemba (monastery) and village below. The main building has floor-to-ceiling windows, with a separate wing housing eight suites. While fewer visitors make the journey to Gangtey due to its remote location, it’s truly not to be missed. The Nature Trail hike from the lodge leads up to the monastery and down through the valley and makes for a perfect day in the Kingdom. Relax in the evening with a signature spa treatment: a hot stone bath, taken in a repurposed farmer’s shed. Spacious suites are designed in Aman’s minimalist style with Bhutanese-style windows framing the sumptuous views, blonde wood-paneled walls, soaring ceilings, a freestanding deep soaking tub, and a traditional wood-burning bukhari to keep guests cozy on chilly nights. The dining room is has a communal table, so the quiet lodge can turn quite social in the evenings.
