The Oberoi, Marrakech Review

Arriving at the entrance of the The Oberoi Marrakech—set amongst 28 acres of fragrant citrus trees and centuries-old olive groves, and with its impressive Moorish architecture and welcoming staff at the ready—is an experience in and of itself. The resort opened on a former farm in 2019, and it blends seamlessly with the natural landscape, giving the impression that the property has been part of the scenery for generations. Its buildings take their architectural inspiration from Moroccan palaces, and the main courtyard was modeled after the historic Medersa Ben Youssef, a 14th-century Islamic school in Marrakech’s medina.

Every room in the main building comes with Atlas Mountain views, regardless of room category. For more privacy, there are also 78 spacious villas located throughout the property, each with private pools, landscaped gardens and butler service. Both the rooms and villas are adorned with traditional Moorish design elements, such as hand painted zellige tiles.

The Oberoi Spa sits on its own mini-island amidst the orchards and olive groves. It is the first professional Ayurvedic facility in Marrakech, and the programming here comprises cornerstones of spiritual health, body activation, holistic treatments and healthy eating. The spa offers customizable packages and Moroccan treatments tailored for each guest that emphasize the joy of slow living. Amenities also include a fitness room with cardio equipment and weights, a room for yoga and other classes, a hammam (of course), and a kids club focusing on mindful activities and play-based learning. 

The three on-property restaurants serve some of the best meals in Marrakech. The main restaurant Tamimt has indoor and outdoor terrace seating and sweeping views of the grounds and mountains. The crowd-pleasing à la carte menu showcases Mediterranean, Indian and international cuisines. The chefs, who were brought in from other Oberoi properties, take their spices seriously, and regularly send staff to collect from India in order to create authentic Indian dishes. The Art Deco bar, Vue, is another highlight, offering an extensive range of wines, single malts, and expertly mixed cocktails complemented by Moroccan tapas. It has a candlelit interior, a warming fireplace, and an al fresco terrace with, you guessed it, views of the Atlas Mountains.
