Discover Uzbekistan

If you have an appetite for worldly adventures, a curiosity about little-known countries; if you love learning about Mughal art, architecture and history; and if you’re in the market for marvelous suzani bedspreads, ikat scarves and colorful embroidered tunics, then Uzbekistan is for you. This seven-night itinerary takes you to three of its largest cities—Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara—and features visits to extraordinarily tiled mosques, mausoleums and minaret-topped buildings in abundance. This is a trip of minimal physical luxuries but maximal sensory experiences, where grand public squares and historic neighborhoods are like 400-year-old caravan-stop paintings come to life, and the grace and scale of ancient arches and domes are juxtaposed against the realities of contemporary daily life in a post-Soviet state. Showcasing the country’s most famous architectural highlights and its textiles, arts and crafts, this Indagare Journey is ideal for guests who are either serious Silk Road students or serious shoppers who appreciate going to the sources of their finds—or both!

A spot on this trip may be reserved with a 50 percent non-refundable deposit.

What to Expect

Highlights and special experiences:

Explore the historic riches and architectural masterpieces of a former crossroads of the world, an ancient stretch of the Silk Road, where Islamic, Russian and East Asian cultures meld together. Uzbekistan today is a safe, cosmopolitan and welcoming country that retains its own distinct character.

Access daily shopping opportunities with visits to crafts centers and markets that offer ceramics, mosaics and, most especially, gorgeous textiles, including brightly-colored suzanis, ikats, silks, rugs and embroidery.

Learn about the many rulers and civilizations that have shaped Uzbekistan into what it is today, including the great warriors Genghis Khan and Tamerlane.
