For years, the surreal landscapes, authentic experiences and the wonders of Bolivia were reserved for backpackers willing to forego creature comforts. Now, Bolivia is pulsing with the energy of a country on the verge—and it won’t be long before the rest of the world catches on.
What to Expect
On this journey, we will travel with our host Melissa Biggs Bradley through the various natural and urban landscapes, seeing the wonders of Bolivia that make the country so unique. First, we will arrive in La Paz, where we will visit the sophisticated Calacoto neighborhood, as well as cultural museums and such fine and innovative restaurants as Ali Pacha and Gustu, which is helmed by the founder of the acclaimed Noma in Copenhagen. You will also be able to enjoy local shopping for textiles and custom couture.
We will then fly to Uyuni, the location of the largest salt flat in the world. We will spend a full day in the salt flats, exploring the vast, bright white landscape and captivating oasis, which can only be traversed by land cruiser. Here, we will be met by a Bolivian art collector who has been an integral part of his home country’s rise to international popularity, and who will use the salt flats as a canvas for his own land art installations on-site. Members will also experience the famous “salt hotel” and the vibrant Laguna Colorada.
