St. Andrews

Courtesy of Visit Scotland

Set among the cluster of fishing villages that make up the Kingdom of Fife is the charming beachside town of St Andrews. Its designation as the home of golf is well-earned, and it also boasts Scotland’s oldest university, University of St Andrews, founded in 1410. Add to that the incredible seafood restaurants and old-world buildings and cobblestone streets, and St Andrews is a Scottish town not to be missed.

Designing Your Journey

Work with Indagare to design the perfect itinerary for an immersive journey. Our travel experts know the destination inside and out, and they can make recommendations based on your travel needs and preferences.

  • Essential St Andrews-LP

    Essential St Andrews

St Andrews is known as the “home of golf,” but itineraries here also offer activities like castle touring, beachside walks and falconry. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1

Spend your morning on a guided walking tour of St Andrews, a charming and historic town that attracts visitors from all over the world. Take in the elegant, ivy-clad buildings and medieval cobblestoned streets before lunch at a local pub. In the afternoon, head to the University of St Andrews for a tour of the classically delightful campus. Alternatively, you can enjoy a special Indagare-arranged class in falconry, a whiskey or beer tasting, or a visit to the St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company.

    • Day 2

Today, learn about the medieval history of St Andrews with a tour of the castle, the crumbling cathedral and the adjacent church of St Regulus, where you can climb the spiral staircase to the top of the 108 ft tower for magnificent views and photos of the town and its surroundings. After a cozy lunch at an Indagare-recommended restaurant, visit St Andrew’s two great beaches, one being the magnificent West Sands, where the famous opening sequence of Chariots of Fire was shot.

    • Day 3

Spend your day practicing on the courses of the great Home of Golf. Indagare can arrange for you to play with a PGA professional at one of the town’s many difficult, dramatic venues. Other attractions include the Botanic Gardens, British Golf Museum, St Andrews Aquarium and the Byre Theatre, one of only four 5-Star arts venues in Scotland. In the afternoon, enjoy some shopping for wool sweaters and wellies before a relaxing dinner and cocktails at your hotel or in town.

Indagare's Amelia Osborne Scott
"Scotland’s outdated reputation for subpar cuisine is challenged in St Andrews’ handful of excellent restaurants and cafés. Favorite lunch places include the charming, student-favorite North Point Café, traditional Scottish Doll’s House and sleek Seafood Restaurant, which hangs out over the water."
