Surrounded by a spectacular landscape of lakes and mountains and divided by the clear turquoise waters of the Salzach River, Austria’s Salzburg is a baroque jewel on the northern boundary of the Alps. Shaped as much by its natural setting as by industrious human creativity, the city is a delightful mixture of old and new. Its lofty past easily blends with a lively present: monuments and modern works of art sit side-by-side; 600-year-old restaurants serve modern cuisine.

Designing Your Journey
Work with Indagare to design the perfect itinerary for an immersive journey. Our travel experts know the destination inside and out, and they can make recommendations based on your travel needs and preferences.
3 Days: Essential Salzburg
Indagare can help with a customized itinerary that includes guided touring and special access. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.
Day 1: Historic Overview
Start your day with a stroll along the Getreidegasse, Salzburg’s famous shopping lane, to get acquainted with the left bank of Old Town Salzburg. Tour the city’s most important museums and sites with a local guide who can regale you with stories about the house in which Mozart was born in 1756 and the Residenz Imperial Palace, one of the most important historical buildings in Salzburg.
Day 2: The Hills Are Alive
No trip to Salzburg would be complete without a visit to the Mirabell Palace and Gardens. Sound of Music fans will recognize this as the location where Maria and the children sing Do-Re-Mi. Stop for a riverside lunch before returning to the city for some shopping at such icons as Sacher.
Day 3: Hiking
Salzburg is surrounded by gorgeous countryside, perfect for everything from a brisk walk to challenging hiking. Indagare can arrange a guide. Return to the city in the afternoon for a fabulous final meal at Fortress Hohensalzburg with outstanding view.
Where To Stay
We only feature hotels that we can vouch for first-hand. At many of them, Indagare members receive special amenities, including upgrades, early check-in, breakfast, spa credits and more. Look for the Indagare Plus logo in the reviews.
