    Iconic Indonesia

From the well-known (Bali) to the untouched (Sumba), Indonesia is ripe with travel opportunities for those who appreciate verdant landscapes and a spiritual culture. The ideal itinerary includes time on Bali in Ubud, Seminyak in the south and the relatively unspoiled north; Nihiwatu on Sumba island; and either Java, Moyo or on Aman’s spectacular sailboat.

    • When to Go

Indonesia’s dry season is from March to November. Peak season (with the best surfing but also the biggest crowds) lasts from June to August. The shoulder months of March and November are also popular thanks to warm weather, and while December and January are peak rainy season, much of the country experiences mostly overnight showers that clear by morning.

    • Ideal Length of Stay

      10 days

    • Itinerary Highlights

Exploring the Indonesian archipelago by boat, surfing on Sumba Island and temple visits, yoga and beach time in Bali

    • Days 1-4: Bali

Combine time in lush Ubud with buzzing Seminyak and Uluwatu or the lesser-visited north. Get in plenty of yoga, visits to temples and dining out at hot spot restaurants and beach clubs.

    • Days 4-7: Java, Moyo or onboard Amandira

Travelers looking for a spiritual sojourn are attracted to Amanjiwo, in Central Java, for its shrines and palaces. Alternatively, Amanwana in the Moyo nature reserve consists of 20 tents that stretch across a sandy plateau. For the ultimate indulgent treat, a trip aboard Amandira allows visitors to seek out the most secluded retreats and exciting dive spots.

    • Days 7-10: Nihiwatu

As the only resort on the entirely undeveloped island of Sumba, Nihiwatu sits on 560 acres of unspoiled natural land, including 1.5 miles of gorgeous and wild private beach. Originally built as a collection of rustic bungalows for surfers lured by its globally coveted, exclusive wave break, the property has since transformed into a luxurious, villa-style resort that doesn’t sacrifice its deep connection to—and protection of—the local community.
