    Romantic Mozambique

Mozambique offers the perfect conclusion to a safari honeymoon itinerary. Here is just one example of what our destination experts can create for you.

    • Day 1

Mozambique’s 1,000-mile coastline has turquoise-blue waters with abundant coral reefs and has been called ‘the Galápagos of Africa.’  Wake early and set off on a diving or snorkeling expedition in the pristine waters surrounding Benguerra island. Two Mile Reef teems with Ember Parrotfish, Fire Goby, Devil Firefish and other colorful reef species, as well as an incredible array of healthy coral. In the afternoon, after a lengthy lunch with your feet in the sand, venture out to explore the island’s forest, stopping at the shores of the freshwater lakes where you can see flamingos.

    • Day 2

Spend the morning lounging beach- or poolside before setting out on an island tour that culminates in a lavish castaway picnic at a hidden spot on the island, where you will be completely secluded. Return to the shade of your casita for an afternoon siesta on your private veranda or a relaxing treatment in the massage sala.

    • Day 3

Arrange a helicopter tour of Benguerra and the surrounding area, which is most magnificent during low tide when large patches of sand emerge between a sea whose color runs from deep sapphire to the lightest Tiffany turquoise. For your final afternoon, you should arrange a sunset cruise on a local, wooden dhow boat. If you’re lucky, you will see leaping dolphins and the elusive dugong, an aquatic mammal that is almost entirely extinct.

“There are lots of moments that will stay with me from my trip to Benguerra: the symphony of birds in the morning as if waking in an aviary (there are more than 140 species in the Bazaruto region); watching hundreds of ghost crabs play a game of hide-and-seek in the surf of Southern Beach; flying towards the island across water that looked like Monet had visited the tropics: a translucent dreamscape of water and light.”
